My name is Ray Murray. I am 36 years old and I live in London. I am bald and I have bad teeth. While my baldness is not a problem for me, my teeth are. All 11 of them. Plus 6 dead roots.

As a younger person, I did all I could to look after them. Despite this effort, they proceeded to break one by one. When your teeth are soft enough to just break at anything - even the softest of foods - then you know you are only fighting a losing battle.

A trusted female friend told me recently:

I'm afraid that what puts women off the most about you is (no good way of saying this) your teeth. If you did something about it I'm sure you would feel and look better. No woman wants to kiss a man who's like that, I'm afraid. Women are a bit funny like that. I'm sorry if I have just hurt you, but it's not meant as an insult. It's the truth.

While I appreciate her honesty, there is just no way I can afford to have my teeth fixed. Affordable dentistry simply does not exist anymore in the UK. Some dentists claim to provide NHS-subsidised treatments, then tell you that your required treatment is not available on the NHS, and that the only way to receive such treatment is to "go private" and pay large sums of money. Money I just do not have, given that I only work for a food retailer.

So, I can look forward to a life of no kisses. Great!

And believe me, with teeth like mine, you just do not smile - ever!

Naturally, I am not seeking exotic treatments, such as implants, crowns, veneers etc. My solution will be simple - extraction and dentures. Plain and simple.

Having consulted various price lists, it would seem the cheapest extraction is ₤95 per tooth. Given I have 11 teeth and 6 roots to remove, this alone would cost me ₤1615. The dentures themselves will apparently cost a minimum ₤400. Add to this the cost of just having someone look into my mouth, plus sedation or whathaveyou, and we are looking at something in the region of ₤2500!

Just where does a lowly shop worker find ₤2500? There's rent to pay, and bills to be sated. Life is expensive enough. And here is where you come in!
